A project by Cwm Arian

Y Stiwdio opened in December 2022 and since then has delivered high quality workshops to our rural North Pembrokeshire community, giving access to creative skills and education that might otherwise be hard to find. Our participants report increased levels of wellbeing, increased connection with other local people and leave feeling confident that they can repeat the skills at home. Our workshops focus around art, craft and sustainability, giving local people increased resilience to recycle, upcycle and make their own rather than buying new and helping to reduce the number of items going to landfill.

Our building is a beautiful round pole timber frame structure which utilises modern, sustainable building materials such as hempcrete and lime and heritage building methods, providing a welcoming and inspiring space. We utilise solar power for our energy and run a compost toilet system to make us as eco-friendly as possible.

We are part of Cwm Arian, a community benefit society with the objectives of promoting a low carbon economy and relief of poverty in the area surrounding our community wind turbine: North Pembrokeshire, West Carmarthenshire and South Ceredigion.

Through our workshops we aim to:

Build knowledge and skills through creative art, craft and sustainability workshops which help to build resilience in our local community, inspiring people to recycle, upcycle and create their own instead of buying new.

Engage with more Welsh language facilitators to run art and craft workshops in Welsh and bilingually to diversify our audiences, recognise traditional Welsh art and craft heritage, and so that local Welsh speakers can learn in their first language and encouraging non-Welsh speakers to learn.

Address loneliness and isolation through creative group workshops to encourage local people to meet over a shared interest.

To work with people living with disadvantage and provide greater access to creative, social activities through a tiered ticketing system and always having the option of a free ticket.
