Upskill and Upcycle Volunteer
Description:
We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in supporting workshops taking place as part of our Upskill and Upcycle series generously funded by Community Foundation Wales. These workshops aim to address the cost of living crisis through giving participants skills in repairing, making and upcycling to save money and prevent more items entering landfill.
What does the role involve:
Volunteers will support workshop leaders in delivery of their courses. These could involve sewing, tool sharpening, visible mending or repairing household items. The role will involve helping to set up and then clean up after the workshop, laying out chairs / tables, making teas and coffees for participants and lending encouragement or support where needed.
Time commitment:
Workshops are happening between January and August 2024. Some will be weekdays and others may be Saturdays. The workshops will last between 3 and 6 hours in total. We will send a list of opportunities and you can sign up for as many as you wish.
What kind of person might enjoy this role:
Someone sociable who enjoys meeting new people.
Someone with some knowledge of sewing / mending, textiles, tool sharpening or household item repair or someone keen to learn!
Someone with a passion for upcycling and reusing items to cope with the cost of living crisis and to stop items entering landfill.
What can we offer:

We have a small budget to assist with transport costs where needed.

Hwb Dysgu'r Tir Volunteer
Description:
We are seeking to recruit a volunteer team to assist us with an exciting new CARE project ‘Hwb Dysgu’r Tir’. Generously funded by the Shared Prosperity Fund you will be fundamental in creating this innovative land learning hub on CARE’s newly acquired land opposite Canolfan Clydau.
Hwb Dysgu’r Tir will provide first class training across a range of land based topics including hedging, orchard creation and management, sustainable food and farming methods, agroforestry, growing natural materials for arts and crafts and composting. This is a chance to be involved in creating a really special resource for the people of Pembrokeshire and beyond and we hope you will be part of our team!
What does the role involve:
There are a diverse range of opportunities available for volunteers within this project. They could include one or all of these topics:
Tree planting
Office-based administrative activities
Assisting with art and craft workshops
Assisting workshop leaders with setting up and packing away for sessions
Making tea and coffee
Helping people with activities or being an extra pair of hands
Assembling raised beds and planting up
Time commitment:
With multiple roles available the time commitment for this project is flexible. There is likely to be opportunities to volunteer on both weekdays and weekends from 3 to 6 hours at a time.
Volunteers will be sent a list of various opportunities and they can sign up for the ones that feel most suitable for them.
What kind of person might enjoy this role:
If you enjoy working outside on the land, growing, planting and creating interesting outside spaces you might enjoy this role. If you are creative and enjoy working with natural materials to make art or craft you might like to support this strand of the project. You might also enjoy meeting and interacting with other local people and supporting them to learn new skills.
We would be particularly excited to hear from volunteers with a farming background but we're interested in hearing from everyone and anyone that would like to be involved.

Gardening Team
Join us as part of our volunteer gardening team. This role would suit someone who likes being outside, enjoys working in the garden, being with nature, growing fruit and vegetables or is keen to learn.
What does the role involve?
Growing plants from seed
Weeding
Watering
Pruning and tidying plants
Mulching
Time commitment: Flexible - this role can work around your commitments. It could be a couple of hours a month or a weekly commitment.
What can we offer: Tea and coffee is provided, we have gardening tools and gloves available on site. Learning from the expertise of CARE staff members and other gardening volunteers.
